Sheep shearing in Australia

It's funny how watching a sheep getting sheared brings back memories.

We once had a large property in Upwey, Victoria Australia.

The property was sloped and difficult to maintain and in that area the grass grew very quickly.
So my In-Laws offered us a sheep which we could keep on the property to help keep the grass down.

Her name was Ringa, she was a Merino who are famous for their fine wool.
What we didn't know at the time is that Merino wool doesn't stop growing which means they require shearing at least once a year.
Otherwise the wool will continue growing causing problems for the sheep.

One weekend, it was raining heavily and  Ringa, who by this time had an overabundance of wool, became wet.
The combined weight of her wool and the water was too much for her and she fell over and was unable to get up again.

We thought at first she was ill and it wasn't until we attempted to stand her up that we realized what had happened.

We called in a shearer who charged us $50 to shear her and he kept the fleece to sell himself.

Recently, I attended a show at the Ekka where they staged a Sheep Shearing demonstration.

I have recorded this on 360 Video.

Years later I come across a show at the Ekka where they demonstrated how to shear sheep and this time I was able to record it in a 360 Video
